Sevagram

Sevagram was the de-facto capital of India during the preindependence era. In 1936, Mahatma Gandhi came to Wardha on the request of Shri Jamanalalji Bajaj and settled in village Shegaon which was rechristened as Sevagram by Mahatmaji. Sevagram is situated 8 Kms from Wardha. “Quit India” movement in 1942 was started from this small village.

Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences

Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram (MGIMS) was established by renowned Gandhian and former Union Health Minister Late Dr Sushila Nayar in 1969. Under her dynamic leadership, the Institute blossomed in around 1000 bedded hospital. One of the objectives of MGIMS is to produce doctors with rural bias. It is known for its innovative approaches in medical education and for provision of health care to rural masses.

Dr Sushila Nayar School of Public Health

The Department of Community Medicine has been upgraded to Dr Sushila Nayar School of Public Health. It has been implementing community-based programs to enhance health care services to the rural masses in and around Wardha district. It has, in its mission, to create a model for decentralized rural and community health care delivery, to develop networking with other organizations, to initiate policy advocacy for health needs of the underprivileged section of the community, to conduct & promote research on priority health problems and to develop doctors with a service orientation towards rural and underprivileged communities.
